Arthur Radley

Arthur "Boo" Radley was an adult living in Maycomb in the 1930s, a few doors down from the Finch house. His father kept him in the house because of his beliefs. Early in the events of the book, Jem and Scout go by his house every day after school and find things in the knot-hole of a tree. After a while, they want to leave a thank you letter to person who puts the items in the tree. The next day, Jem and Scout find Nathan closing the hole in the tree. It is possible Boo put those items in there, as an attempt to reach out to the children.
